As if replacing nurses wasn’t hard enough, try finding hundreds of new ones! That was the challenge Texas Children’s Hospital presented us when they doubled the size of the nation’s largest pediatric hospital. After reviewing the timeline and touring the construction site, we decided that holding hiring events in the unfinished facility offered several advantages: we could get a head start; the venue would impart a sense of participation in the expansion and impress candidates with the scope of opportunity; and it fit perfectly into the “Come Grow With Us” theme we had successfully connected between career enhancement at TCH and pediatrics in general. The result was a multi-faceted campaign using PR, direct mail, nursing school posters, flyers, newspaper and journal ads, relevant internet sites and user-friendly on-site signage. More than 350 candidates attended the initial Open House, filling the majority of the new positions. Problem solved. |
