Being one of the largest public health care systems in the country doesn’t exempt you from the nursing shortage or from budgetary limitations. So when the Harris County Hospital District launched its supplemental staffing option, we had to find an affordable way to tell RNs about this flexible new opportunity to enhance their lifestyles and careers with one of the world’s most respected teaching hospitals.

HCHD prides itself on its highly personalized family environment. To emphasize that, we held a hiring event with a warm, friendly “afternoon tea” atmosphere. Invitations to targeted prospects, newspaper ads and nursing school flyers spread the word using graphics designed to create a cozy, comfortable theme.

Not only was the event a success in terms of hires, it also helped “de-institutionalize” the image of a very large public health care system.
